ASDA FM - Live Streaming To Your Desktop
Published on 29/04/2008 12:52:33

If, like me, you enjoy listening to a great selection of today's hits and yesterday's classic pop whilst you browse the aisles picking up your hot cross buns, toothpaste and Domestos toilet cleaner, then I think you will like the following link.  With the launch of ASDA FM live streaming, you don't have to leave your desk to enjoy those same hits that you would normally get in your fave food store.  And you also get to hear about special offers of the week, which means that when you do actually get around to visiting your local ASDA, you can optimise your shopping experience and save a few quid in the process! ASDA FM broadcasts LIVE to over 300 ASDA stores - and to my desktop!

Here's the link (Windows Media Format): ASDA FM LIVE RADIO STREAM

P.S. I just found out that 200g packs of cooked meat varieties are on special offer this week - 3 for £3!  Tell the cashier that root sent you!

DSO Transmitter Work is well under way
Published on 15/04/2008 12:17:26

One of my favourite websites is the MB21 Transmission Gallery.  Updated regularly, it shows UK Terrestrial broadcast transmitter sites from around the country.  Since the UK is preparing for DSO beginning in November this year (in the Border Television area), all of the transmitters will need updating.  The latest updates on the gallery are as follows:

Mendip DSO Work

Redruth DSO Work

Also, some very interesting work coming up at the Sutton Coldfield transmitter which serves Birmingham and The West Midlands.  From Wikipedia:

Digital switchover is scheduled for the West Midlands in September 2011. In preparation for this, major engineering works will take place at Sutton Coldfield. The mast will be extended from its existing height of 245.0 metres (804 ft) to a new height of 270.5 metres (887 ft) and the existing analogue and digital television antennas will be replaced. In order to accomplish this, a temporary 240.2 metres (788 ft) mast will be erected to broadcast all the area's services so that the main mast is worked on 'cold'.

Wow - what a tall mast for just a temporary installation! Exciting stuff!!!
